We have been placing more and more animals from our shelter in great forever homes and we want to thank all of the new owners for giving these wonderful animals a second chance at life! We want to give out a big hug and a big thank you to all the people who have made this possible. We thank those who have paid to have these animals flown, those who have fostered animals, those who have taken them to the airport, those who have accompanied animals home to their new owners....Thank you everbody!! The dogs and cats thank you from the bottom of their hearts.




This is Isla who was found as a puppy by her owner Emily Dark. She travels with Emily and lives in Vieques and in NH. Isla is quite well known as the prettiest dog in Vieques (so her owner says) and also in NH. She enjoys life with her buddy Pancho, the latest addition to the family, and she loves to go for hikes and walks on the beach where she can run and swim.



Pancho is Isla's best friend (above featured dog). He was a street dog wandering alone, getting into fights and chasing cars. He began to wander the downtown near the restaurants when his owner first saw him. He was soon snatched up and taken to the vet and brought home where he has been for the last year. Since then he has traveled to places like NH and Cape Cod and has made many friends. He too loves the beach and hikes in the woods where he can chase birds and lizards and Jet Skiis in the ocean. (Some day he will catch one)

This is Lucy and her wonderful new owners who were visiting Vieques and took her home to Vermont.

The above black kitten was found starving in an alley way in town and is now living with this other shelter cat in a nice home here in Vieques. They are loved very much by their owners and are very thankful for their new safe home.

This mom came in with a severe uterine infection and was starving with eight puppies. As soon as she stared eating she began to nurse and take care of her babies. This puppy was the one survivor out of all of them. They now live in Cape Cod in a wonderful home with loving owners.


This is our famous Whitey who has been at the shelter for five year is ten years old. She now lives happily in New Ipswich, New Hampshire with a great family. She can now live out the rest of her life with the love and care that she deserves.

Louis was at the shelter since she was a puppy and now lives happily in Connecticut.
This is Santos who was a stray around this neighborhood. A lovely volunteer fell in love with him one day and now he lives the life on a beautful farm in NH. He lives with three cats and gets to go for walks and runs everyday. His owner loves him very much and he is very popular in town.


This lucky dog named Nena Bonita was taken by two of our favorite volunteers to Connecticut where she lives a great life with her new family (shown in the photo above). Her new family takes her swimming and hiking and they love her so much. This is a dream come true for a once lonesome homeless dog.

Here are some wonderful girls who came to visit us and who had raised money at school and also bought us some greatly needed medical supplies. They and their family brought home a puppy for us that had been adopted through petfinder to a home in Massachusettes.



And here is the little puppy from the picture above that was brought to Massachusettes by that great family. Her new family fell right in love with her and look how pampered she is! Now named Lilly, she is loving life in her home and her family says she is the perfect match for them and that she has the most loving and sweet personality. What a success story!!!!

This is Negrita who came to the shelter after being hit by a car and her eyes were badly damaged. She ended up losing one eye and had a hard recovery. Through a good friend of the shelter she was adopted by a wonderful owner up in the states where she now lives a great life full of love.

This is Manchita in her new home in Connecticut. She was shipped up to the states after her new mom found her on perfinder and fell in love with her. She is the sweetest dog and fell in love with her new home and her new life and is doing great.
This is Falcor and he was recued off the streets of Vieques. His new owners are in love with him and think that he is the best dog ever!!! They take him for walks in the park everyday and he has made a lot of doggie friends there.
Oliver went to a shelter in Vermont where he was adopted soon after. He was found on the beach wandering around and now he has a second chance at life.

Pom Pom, now named Lucita, was found on Petfinder by her new owners. They had been searching for the perfect dog for a long time and when they saw her picture the new it was her. She now lives in North Carolina and is in love with her new home and new owners and her other dog companion!




Vaquita was part of a litter that came to VHS and she was lucky enough to be found on Petfinder by her new ower in Massachusettes. She is the luckiest little girl in her new home where she is loved so much!
Molly was brought to NH where she was fostered by numerous wonderful people and then has recently found the best home ever! Above she is playing at one of her foster homes with Hector, a rescue cat from Vieques. She lives with her new mom in NH with another rescue dog and has all the room in the world to run around and play! She is such a lucky dog because she had so many people working hard to take care of her and trying to find her that perfect home. Thanks everyone for your love and help!!!
This is Hector who lives in NH. He came from the Vieques Humane Society last year as a kitten and now he is a handsome young man who loves to run around the house and yard. He is loved very much by his owners and they say he is the smartest cat in the world.



This is Molly and Hunter who were adopted by a volunteer this past winter here in Vieques and they now live in a great big farm house in NH. They are two spoiled dogs who are so lucky to have such great loving owners!!. Above they are playing with a friend at a VHS dog cookout.
After a long day that started on the ferry and a flight to Seattle, Leo is now in the arms of his new happy family. They picked him out on Petfinder and are more than pleased with him. Leo is the sweetest dog and couldn't be more lucky. He had been at shelter here for more than a year and it makes us so happy to see him in such a wonderful home.




This is one of our best enjoying a movie with his new buddy in Toronto. Sam made a long trip to his wonderful new owners in Canada and we thank them so much for their devotion and patience in getting him. Sam was a stray in the streets near the shelter and now he gets to strole down the streets of Toronto!!! Check out his fashioable new clothing for the very different weather of Toronto. Nice booties Sam!!!


This little dog was rescued by a wonderful friend of the Humane Society. He was thrown off the pier in town and almost drown. He was rehabiliated at the shelter where the prognosis was not good. But he pulled threw and was later brought to the states to a great loving family. He now is named Capt. Nemo and has the best life he could have ever wished for.


This is Soleil who now lives in Weare, NH. She was a shy dog who has come out of her shell and has brought such joy to her wonderful new family. She is the sister of Molly who was also adopted in NH and who is also doing so well. Their sister Luna is still here at the shelter. What a story it would be if she also went to live in NH! Soleil is so lucky to have such a devoted family who took the time and effort to get her from a far away place.

Toto was adopted just recently by a great family that lives in Puerto Rico. Toto came from the streets of Vieques and her new owner came all the way over on the ferry to pick her up and bring her to her new fabulous home!! As you can see she is a lucky little girl. What a chrismas treat for a once lonely little dog.


A wonderful couple from Indianapolis was visiting Vieques and fell in love with a puppy that was homeless living by a trash can near the ferry dock. She was starving and mangy and they started feeding her and then took her to VHS where we treated her. They had to go home without her, but weeks later had her shipped all the way to Indianapolis and since then Molly has become their baby and they love her so much! This dog definitely hit the jackpot and she knows it...what a great story.
This is Diego (the black and white doggie) who now lives the life in his new New England home. He started off as a shy guy who took a while to get out of his shell. His new family had the patience and love to stick with him and he is doing so well. His family had visited Vieques before and fell in love with the dogs here, so when they met Diego in the Vermont shelter, they knew they loved him. We thank them for their love and devotion!! (and of course Diego does too)

This pretty kitty was just brought home from VHS to her new home in NH. What a lucky girl!!


This adorable little kitty was adopted from VHS by a great couple that just moved to Vieques. He now has a great home with a new buddy and look how happy he is!!


This is Snoopy who was looking for just the right home where she could get all the love and attention that she demands and she found it! She wasn't happy at the shelter and she was discovered by wonderful family here on Vieques while she was being fostered. Now she is a spoiled girl who gets more love than she could have ever imagined!

This is Atrevido who was adopted last winter and brought to Canada! He is very successful in his home and his owner loves him very much. What a lucky guy!


Delilah now lives in Massachusettes with her new family. She came to the shelter as a little puppy found at the dump.




This is lovely Joy who was found in the streets, rescued and brought to VHS. She then made her way to CT to a foster home and was then soon adopted by her happy new family. She has grown into a beautiful dog and is living the life.

This little puppy sleeping was found all by herself in a neighborhood and was brought to VHS. She then made a trip to CT to a foster home and now has found her way to a great forever home! As you can see, she is happy and comfortable in her new family with her new friend.

Look at these gorgeous little guys that were brought up to the states to be fostered and that found a wonderful home together! They are so happy to be together and to be cared for so much.

This little girl was rescued and fostered by one of our friends here on Vieques. A nice volunteer brought her to Boston to her new family where she is now safe and secure in her forever home. Once a lonely scared puppy, now a happy, playful little girl!



Sinbad had been at the Shelter for more than a year before he was discovered by his wonderful new family. Sinbad was apart of the famous March 16 th transport and made it all the wayt to Bradly Int'nl Airport! He now lives in Massachusettes and is living the life! Sinbad is a big friendly giant who has now found the home of his dreams and we are all so thrilled!




This little guy was found in the Vieques Airport parking lot. He was brought in with mange and heartworm and one of our VHS friends thought he was so cute she wanted to pay for his treatments. Then his Dad came down to vieques to work and volunteer at VHS and fell in love with him and named him "Airport". Airport now lives the life in New Hampshire and goes to work all the time with his owner. As you can see Airport works very hard and is a man's dog. What a tough guy. To go from being kicked around looking for food in a parking lot to having your own bed and jacket and food cooked for you....what a second chance at life this guy got. Airport's owner often says that he is the most handsome dog in the world. He as also been described as "muscular" and "magestic".

This little puppy was brought up by one of our best friends to be fostered and found a home so soon! She is in heaven in her new home with her new family and friends. She could not have been more lucky.


This adorable black dog was known as the dog on the roof at VHS. He was the little alarm system that would hang out all day on the roof of the shelter. When the above "Airports" dogs owner came down, he also thought Simon was great and would be great for his best friend and he was! Simon made his way to NH and now lives with his friend Dash in a great house where he has lots of land to run around. What a life for this little guy.


Chapin was found at Sun Bay and brought to VHS where he was discovered by his wonderful owners. He know lives with another great dog and is loved very much. He loves his hugs and kisses and is always full of energy.



This is a puppy that was found at the beach with his brothers and sisters by a friend of ours and brought to VHS. His mom fell in love with him over the internet and decided he was the puppy for her! So, Charley made the long trip to Boston and his mom made a long trip from NY to pick him up. Charley is a happy, healthy puppy and has a great family now!


This lucky puppy was rescued from the streets in Vieques and is now living wonderfully with her new family in CT. What a life to have, lots of play time and then a comfy bed to crash in!

This is the above puppy's brother also rescued from the streets of Vieques. This little brown puppy obviously found the jackpot! His new family loves him so much and he never goes without hugs or kisses!


This is Luna, the black and white dog, who is enjoying the holidays. She was adopted years ago from VHS and is living the life in New York. We just love to hear from happy owners of our dogs and Luna is a great example of a success story that has lasted over the years!



This lucky little guy was fostered here on Vieques. His foster mom loved him so much that she decided that she would keep him! He now lives the life in Maine and couldn't be happier. Hiking, swimming, running on the beach and lots of love.....what more could he ask for??



This is our wonderful girl Mandy who now lives in West Virginia. She was fostered by a lovely person who then fell in love with her and decided to take her home. Mandy had been at the shelter since a puppy (2yrs) and is so lucky to have been given this chance at life! Once a shy girl with not much training, she is now a well mannered and confident dog!



You may recognize the spotted dog from pictures above. Vaquita was adopted last year and has been living the life in Massachusettes. Her family decided to add another member from VHS and Dyna was the lucky dog! Dyna was a stray dog who had a rough life and she is now living the life she deserves. Her family loves her so much and she couldn't be happier and we couldn't be happier! VHS wants to thank the family for being so devoted to these girls!

Xena and Winston have been adopted by a wonderful family in Massachusettes and we couldn't be happier that they are living together! Xena had been at the shelter for years and now she can rest in her forever home comfortably (she hopes on the couch). The two had been fostered in Connecticut by our wonderful friend and she fell in love with them. These two dogs are so lucky to have such caring people in their lives and we thank everyody who helped make it all happen!



Bombaro is now the luckiest dog in the world. After living at the shelter for over two years, he was discovered by one of our favorite people! She just thought the world of Bombaro and now he lives in NY with his new family! He couldn't have landed a better deal and boy does he know it!


Nativo went from a sad puppy with a broken leg to a happy puppy with tons of energy and strength! His new family fell in love with him immediately and gave him the home of his dreams! There is no shortage of hugs and kisses for Nativo and he knows he is one lucky doggie!



Salem, now Mojo, might be the happiest dog in the world. His new family read about his heartbreaking story and his rescue and fell in love with him. He waited a long time at the shelter for the perfect family and it was worth the wait! Mojo now lives in Massachussettes and is living the life of his dreams and what a happy ending for this once abandoned and sad doggie.



Lillian was adopted by a wonderful family in Rhode Island after they fell in love with her here in Vieques. She had lived here at the shelter and at a foster home here in Vieques and she now has the perfect permanent home. Lillian was such a shy and reclusive girl and it is so great to see her happy and living the life she deserves. Another great happy ending.

Petey came to VHS from a home that left her in the streets and didn't want her anymore. She was hit by a car and had two broken legs. She was so lonely and depressed so we sent her to CT to our wonderful foster home where she soon found a loving home. She will be loved and cared for in Pennsylvania and will never be lonely again!

This beautiful dog was a puppy from the streets in Vieques. Now living the life in CT she is a proud girl surrounded by people that love her. What more could a dog want?

This is little Denny who finally made is way up to CT from Vieques. One of the many adorable little guys abandoned in the streets and rescued only to find himself in the arms of a wonderful family. Denny spent one night with the foster home before he was snatched up. What a great Holiday gift for everyone!


This little puppy flew up to CT to be fostered and was soon adopted to her new, very happy family. Her name is now Freya and she lives with four cats and her new best black lab friend. Her family loves her and her outgoing friendly personality.


Moxy was flown up to be fostered and was soon adopted by her new extremely happy family. She lives with another dog and two cats (that are not too thrilled with puppies) and she is just the happiest little girl ever. This little island girl is warm in hew new jacket for the winter up north!

Jasmine is another great little Vieques puppy that made her way to a great home up north. She now has a best friend Stella and they love to take naps together.

Lola was adopted along with a Vieques kitten from our wonderful foster home in CT. Lola, once a small little girl, has grown to over 50lbs and what a handful she is! She is adored by her new family and she keeps them on their toes as she gets into everything. The kitten loves to play with Lola and they make a great pair. We want to thank this family for taking a package deal and adopting a kitty too!

Lorna and Maria were the survivors of a litter of four that were wrapped in a box and thrown into the woods to die a horrible death. Thankfully someone passing by saw the suspicious car and heard the cries and rescued the puppies. Sadly two did not make it, but these two girls did and they have also been adopted to great homes up in Massachusettes.

Oreo and Cookie were also rescued and flown up to Massachusettes were they now live in wonderful homes. They will be enjoying the holidays in the arms of loving new owners instead of in the streets.



Chubaca was a street dog for years in Vieques and has found herself living in NH with a wonderful loving family. She now sleeps on the couch instead of under cars and gets all the food she wants. She also underwent a serious surgery for an injury she had since she was a puppy and a wonderful Veterinarian offered to do it in Keene, NH. It was a risky surgery but, Chubaca made it and has become a new stronger and healthier dog. She has a new life and a new headstart...what a lucky girl.




Richard lived many years at the Vieques Humane Society and has found himself living the rest of his life in a wonderful new home in NH. He was flown up to be fostered and soon found a great match for his laid back personality. His new mom is thrilled with this fun loving guy who has been rejuvenated in his older age. We couldn't be happier for Richard!



Walter, once known as Romeo, was snatched up by one of VHS's favorite volunteers in NH. He made his trip from PR to NH and now lives the life on a farm and gets to play with his fellow Vieques Sato friends all the time. He lives with another lucky sato named Santos and they might be the luckiest two satos in the world. Walter is also nationally famous as his video debut made Good Moring America and can be seen HERE. His video is the one with the words "saved one more" . Check it out!


Cierra is another lucky Vieques Sato in NH. She gets to play with her friends all the time and go to work with her owner and she is just loving life! She made her way to NH to a foster home and was soon adopted. Did we mention how fashionable she is in her jacket?



These two beautiful cats are both from Vieques and were adopted by family of one of our great volunteers. They live in NY and they could not be happier or luckier. They spend their days lounging and playing and grooming each other.



These two adorable puppies were best friends in the shelter and were lucky enough to be adopted together by a wonderful family. They are spoiled rotten and live great lives. Once abandoned little guys, now more loved than they could have ever imagined.


Layla was another successful foster story. She was sent to a foster home in NH and was adopted by friends of her foster family in Amherst, NH. She is a lucky girl with her new family and they love her very much. Layla has grown into such a beautiful dog and she knows it too.




Simon was also a successful foster story. He was sent to NH to find the home of his dreams and he found it! He is his owners first dog and she is absolutely in love. Simon is a well mannered little guy and loves his new home. He has many friends and family that have all fallen for his sweet little personality.


These two cuties were adopted here at VHS and brought home to their new home in New England together! They are obviously super happy and super lucky. Isabella and Esperanza are going to grow up in a safe home where they are loved....lucky girls!



Zora was a sad dog wandering the streets in Vieques and was found tied to an employee of VHS's porch one day. She was infected with heartworm and started her treatements and was also lucky enough to get a wonderful foster home. It was here at her foster home where her new owners met and fell in love with her. So, Zora took a flight to NYC and now lives a happy safe live in Long Island. Zora wants to thank everybody that took the time to love her and help her find the home she deserves!


Basil, now Bailey, is living with Hunter and Molly, the two other luckiest Vieques dogs in the world. Basil had a heart breaking start at VHS when she lost her puppy and was very sick. She went home with one of the workers at VHS and she soon fell in love with her. So Basil was shipped to her foster homes good friend in NH where she now lives. She is a happy and fiesty little girl and enjoys playing outside in the NH weather.

These two cats are living in New Hampsire and were once from the streets of Vieques. Rico is new to the household and Hector was adopted three years ago. As you can see, Hector took Rico in, quite sympathetic to his story, and is now his bestfriend.

These two beautiful dogs made their way to Ct in our last shipment and were soon adopted by their new loving parents. They will be living their lives in beautiful New England.

Agador had lived at VHS for over 4 year and finally made his way in style to his new wonderful home in CT. Aggie spent a lot of his time battling skin issues and now in New England he is healthy and handsome and his skin and fur are in great shape. We want to thank our foster Mom for helping us place our older animals so they can live out the rest of their lives in such great homes.

Hanna was adopted from one of our foster homes back in the fall and is living the life with her family. Once a shy puppy left in the streests, now a happy dog in a safe home.


This lucky cat now lives in Pennsylvania with her mom who flew all the way to Vieques just to get her. She is the sweetest cat in the world and her mom just loves her!
